Now concerning gifts, sometimes it appears people develop new gift they never had before. There are a few reasons they may appear to be new: maturity, awakening, cultivation, and divine download. There may be more that you can think up but this is all that immediately comes to mind. Sometimes we have gifts within us that do not appear until we learn how to tap into them or access the things laying latent within us. There are gifts that continue to lay dormant, for lack of a better word, until a teacher or mentor comes along side us who knows how to awaken or unlock what has always been there. Faithfulness will aid in developing and cultivating what is within and divinely there are times in life there is a visitation from the Father and He may impart in us a gift we did not have prior.
I believe God looks for faithfulness and goodness. When I say goodness I mean character: morals and integrity. How can I say this…. “Well done GOOD and FAITHFUL servant.”
Be aware of envy! Philippians 1:15a some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife so we must always strive to be of the heart we find again in Philippians 1:15b-17a but some also in good will; the latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel; the former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition rather than from pure motives… it’s possible for us as followers to be successful before man and still be barren before God. How heartbreaking to strive a lifetime to come before God and all you have to show is burned up and nothing left.
But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value.
~1 Corinthians 3:13
But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap.
So we must ask ourselves a few things:
- How should I be spending my life? (Time, talent, emotions, gifts, etc.)
- What should I be doing to serve God?
- Where should I concentrate my efforts?
I can’t answer these questions for you but I can start you in the right direction… the answer is simple.
“19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” ~Matthew 28:19-20
What is the greatest command we have been given according to Jesus:Jesus replied: “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Found in Matthew 22 This should give you a starting place. This provides the basic foundation on which we are to build our lives and launch our gifts/talents/service. We are each given gifts and talents and measures of faith when we were conceived in the mind of God, even prior to physical conception! He knew me, He knew you as a concept before our conception here on earth. How overwhelming is our Creator!
The essence of the Christian life is in obeying and worshiping God and serving/helping others. The essence of the kingdom is manifesting solutions to people’s problems. SO how can we use who we are and what we are made of to serve and make change in the world!
C.S. Lewis said it well:
“The stamp of the Saint is that he can waive his own rights and obey the Lord Jesus.”
Oh God, get my eyes off of me and let me see the earth as my responsibility. As an intercessor and an ambassador, give me compassion and clarity. I have come to realize what defines me and you is not our decision in one moment. It is the decisions we will make every day. Jesus is not supposed to just be insurance, He’s supposed to be an obsession.
