Be Possessed

I feel such an urgency, a very intense battlefield constantly waits for us. Sheep among wolves, a spiritual war zone. We must be well prepared and equipped to live every day in victory, burning for God. A transformed life by what the Spirit of God teaches us, a paradigm shift.  There is so much more God has for us. What if we just pushed with all our spirit soul and body to see what more of God we can discover. Realms we have not ever encountered. What could happen? It is of utmost importance that the Holy Spirit can move in our lives. He has brought us from death to life. I am showing the devil I am still alive when I rejoice in Jesus, that my generation is still alive, alive spirit soul and body in love with Jesus.
We are change agents. How you see life is how you make decisions. How you view your life is what you will spend your time doing, where you will go, who you will be with, and even what you will read.  Getting hung up on and being confused of our purpose in life is all an illusion to bring confusion from the enemy. Everything we need to know about our life is in the Word of God. He says this is the way, walk in it. He wants to see us walking in what He has clearly given us in our guide the Bible.

18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo,I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”  Matthew 28:18-20

This verse should compel us and motivate us in our decision making. We should not only have this memorized but it should be ingrained in our very being. He wants us to be soldiers crossing enemy lines bringing captivity captive and bringing victims back into camp to raise up more soldiers to remissionpeat it all over again. He wants to give a passion to spread for His kingdoms advancement. Its not about basking in our own freedom. The works not finished until we burn to touch others and bring them to experience the glory of God like we have experienced in His presence. The enemy clearly identifies the enemy as the father of lies, there is no truth in him and everything he says is a lie. The enemy works to keep us content. He works through culture, influence, worldly people, to get us satisfied that we are saved, to intimidate us that we can really have authority. He is trying to hold us passive, to make us mediocre, to walk the earth and never really burn. How said to live a life without urgency to do something in the kingdom of God. We are indifferent to our high calling. take it or leave it? Not an option He gave. the great commission is not above marriage and its not an option. Nothing comes before the commission He has given to go and make disciples of all nations. The enemy says we can’t do that you know nothing… whats the answer? LEARN something! We have a responsibility to our selves and others to read the Word of God, so we can teach other people.
God looks for someone to send. Jesus was the greatest missionary who ever lived… what does missionary mean? Sent one. We don’t have to go to the cannibals, but we are sent to our schools, work, or community. Some are sent to the nations. Jesus says whoever seeks to cling to his life will lose it, we must give up our life to Him, if we want real life to experience abundant living, give it all up to receive what He has for us. Give up our right to decide, our little plan, and let Him direct our life!

Jim Elliot…. He was a man that was possessed, driven and consumed with the call of God, motivated and compelled to make disciples. Every moment was driven to reach the lost. He had no burning bush experience he simply read the Bible and said I will go meet the need I see. He spent his life.. he went to Wheaton college and went to the cannibals in Ecuador. to a people that were completely unreached. When he was 27 years old after preparing for years he gets out of the plan with 4 other people. He meets the people and they spear them to death. No one knew hi at this time, he wasn’t famous. He was simply driven to reach the lost. His death sent a ripple effect among the nations. His death is inspiring people to lay down their lives for the sake of the gospel, We are not called to strategize and plan our lives so we can have influence. We are to seek to obey His word to be compelled by the Word of God.

There is a need for people that have not been feed… do not even know the regreat-commission1al God. They worship some god hoping tis the right god. We are called to the world. If there are ten people trying to carry a log and 9 are on the light end, which end will you choose to help? The one end that is heavy carried by 1 person or the light end carried by 9 people? Where will you go… The enemy will say your not called to missions, its not who you are your a worship leader or a pastor. I know there are different calls but what do you say to Jesus who said to all those disciples who were prophets teachers preachers and so on… He said to them go into all the world and make disciples. What are you burning for? What keeps you up at night? What do you cry over besides your own problems? Where does your money go?

This generation of Christian is responsible of this generation of souls, its not about your own salvation its about being brave and rescuing people from darkness. Like it says in Jude, snatching them from the flames. When you walk with God, He reveals hat part of His passion He wants you to carry. God reveals His will to the person truly WILLING to do HIS WILL! He needs a yes not a maybe or a sometimes.

God works through the hungry submitted person doesn’t matter age, race, or gender. Its not His will that any should perish. He has given us everything we need to meet the need for revival in our nation and every other nation. The enemy keeps us small minded, keeping us from the truth.  God will make you brave if you allow Him.

Jim Elliot was a man possessed by a burning desire to live for God and give his life to find the lost… and he said this… surely those who know the passion and heart of jehovah must deny there own loves to share in the expression of his consider the call from the throne of God, go ye… (theres so much more to this quote)
This is a gospel of risk. So ONE might be saved we may lose all we have for the kingdoms sake. There are plenty of reasons why God can’t use you but those can be brought down by the Word of God. Our lives are not our own if we give them to Christ. We should be dead men walking. We may lose friends, family, money, and even our lives. This is a gospel of risk.

8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8

God is merciful for those who are willing. Whats keeping us from burning?
Seek Him with all your heart and you will find Him.
I say no to fear, and yes to love. He makes me brave when He calls me beyond the shore into the waves. I am ready!

Existential or confused

I think I want to nurture newness. Sounds good right? Whats it going to take to eradicate bland normal living without being an extremest?  We exist for more than existing. We are to be the salt of the earth… whats that look like? It’s believed there are more than 14,000 uses for salt besides food purposes.  Could I jump to the conclusion that it could be a nice analogy of our varying abilities to be used or make change? Maybe. Change is inevitable, its coming no matter who you are and what your desire it. Change is like time it keeps moving.  The problem is, most of us run for the hills when we see change a comin’. Despite the fact that theres no point in running, you can’t hide… Where ever you go there you are. So to ocd-definition-590x442continue with the theme of existence here I will bring myself to explore some slight transparency. Lets see how this goes.
Change can be painful, challenging, exhilarating, stretching, thrilling, frustrating, embarrassing, and probably a few more descriptive words that are not coming to my mind at the moment. I was recently challenged by a precious friend to grow myself by challenging some of my comforting “habits” of obsessions and changing some of my compulsive behaviors… or attempt until I succeed. Not to say Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy is not the treatment of choice that was highly effective but sometimes we have those little comforting pets that are not necessarily hurting anyone or harmful to self but can be inhibiting in small ways and can even begin at some point to draw those boundary lines in closer and closer. “WE” don’t want that so CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
Relentless, and insidious agents of the enemy. I can give my reasons for my choice behaviors and pose a fantastic argument of why the behavior is not only good for me but helpful and preventative of this or that. Never-the-less that is part of the wasted time focusing on prohibitive behaviors.  I can say I was not born with courage but I was sure born with potential. My life hasn’t been easy and some may disagree but no one knows a person wholly only the person and God can make that claim.  I am grateful for my life, for what it has become, for challenges, victories, and the people that have helped in some way to mold the person I am today. There have been tragedies, sadness, sorrow, and tears but all the same have I seen laughter, joy, miracles and construction. The construction is never-ending but thats a good thing.  I have never blamed God in the sad times, but I have asked Him where He is in the midst… what part was Him, what part consequence, and what part human free will… For the majority of my life, I always tried to get the upper hand on any pain that I thought might be headed my way. I can say there are times I can or could but mostly it has not been possible. All the preparation int he world cannot truly prepare you for pain, its a sucker punch.
Instead of looking at caged-bird-singingcertain “things” in daily life  (those who know me well know what these things are…hey I said slight transparency so give me a break here…) in fear and responding by avoidance or with some bizarre socially unacceptable compulsion (if anyone notices), I am starting to look at them as opportunities for freedom. Opportunities to be brave and grow. Who doesn’t want to be more courageous. I know you guys have aways thought of me as so perfect and put together… well surprise!!! Im not. Hold on to you knickers I know this is shocking!
There will be more to come of this challenge and how I am progressing to success so no worries that I will leave you hanging! This is all compounding of course. The frustration of being a spoonie on top of lives everyday challenges topped with my idiosyncrasies and big dreams of changing the world. Let me say I determined as a child I would not be suppressed, held down or forced to give up by any outside force. On the other hand I have been successful at times of tripping myself up real well, probably better than any outside force ever could.
I am grateful for his challenge… my friend will never understand what her words meant to me. She was right, I strive for success and even help others while all the while thinking me coming as far as I have is more than I could ask for… It’s not so lets get uncomfortable because I am up for the challenge. Journey on!!!

Primitive Neurological Response.

Lets speak frankly on the natural… Fight or flight may be a primitive neurological response but it doesn’t mean these are bad 20140626-230932-83372980.jpgoptions in all accounts. Look at them first from the flip side before we explore our knee jerk reactions… Sometimes fighting for what we desire is the right thing to do when we are not installing our own will and selfishness. I will venture to say often what we are really fighting is our personal fears and even the specific fear of making the same mistakes all over again. At times the wisest thing is to get yourself out of dodge. Go off on our own in a sense, but let’s not be extreme. Now that can be a little scary, not only for us but for the loved ones you leave behind because odds are they’re just not going to understand your decision.  Every now and then we need to break from our past if we are holding tightly to some baggage and step into uncharted territory.  Even if this choice is to fly away it doesn’t mean we are never coming back. Consider a sabbatical!
When humans were more primitive our survival depended on the ability to figure out who was a friend and who was a foe. THUS- the amygdala served to make those snap judgments in order to keep us alive.  I should be so bold to say I think we don’t rely on this sense enough these days. We tend to cut people out completely or jump in head first, both of which tend to be done without further exploration.

Sometimes we even want people to go away as a means of protecting ourselves but what we are really saying is for those we love to- go away closer. We shut people out while in reality we are really asking for help.20140626-230644-83204261.jpg
“They,” say sticks and stones may break my bones but words may never hurt me, or do they?  Short Biology lesson… The same part of the brain that registers painful words and verbal hurts on an emotional level is the same area that registers the pain of burning your hand on the oven door or hanging your head on a cabinet door left open. In short, physical and emotional pain are all identified in the same part of the brain (not the amygdala).  The more we know pain, the more we are able to appreciate the good and happy things.  This is the nature of contrast.  If we never knew fear we could never admire courage.  In order to grow and enjoy beauty and goodness, we must first acknowledge our pain.
This all sounds very “self” oriented.  I want to clarify because people and especially Christians can get carried away by being selfless or selfish. Yes, there are balanced people out there somewhere. But for now, we are going to talk about those who are living in extreme. We cannot become so super religious and out of balance because we begin looking for the wrong thing to make “it” feel better.  We won’t do the right thing because we feel like it, we are naturally born selfish but we can choose to do the right thing. I am saying this because we are to protect ourselves to an extent, and take needed breaks but ultimately we must rely on God and sacrifice what He asks of us. Here is a Biblical example we have been given for the fight or flight response.. 11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. (1 Timothy 6)  I bet you didn’t expect that!
When God wants us to stand up and fight for something…it may just be my opinion but I think we better fight.

Do not be afraid of them; the LORD your God himself will fight for you. Deut 3:22

The church by and large doesn’t have the greatest reputation in the world and this is so sad. It gives God a bad rep. I want to see God given glory. What would happen if everyone who calls themselves a Christian did one thing everyday, against their nature, to intentionally bless someone.  What would the world be like and how would they begin to “see” us?  When some people think about Christians… they think of a spineless wimp that jumps at the slightest fright or an image of  balding man, with thick glasses, hump shoulders, scared of his own shadow. I don’t know anyone like either of these images but I hear it a lot. However a christian is also not defined as a fat cat in a suit with slick back hair and a belly so big he can’t see his feet because he eats out all the time. Yes we have some hefty ministers and christians but we are not all snake oil sales men. There is validity in science and its teachings, and there is validity in the Gospel. Integrate your mind.
We must weigh our instincts against the Word of God as Christians.  In Ephesians 6 we find God has provided personal protective equipment for these circumstances of perceived threat in our Christian experience.

Armor of God10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of thisdarkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows ofthe evil one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,
Ephesians 6:10-18

We are all probably familiar with that reference. So next time you experience the fight or flight response, measure it with the Word and His plan before making a move.

Last thought, consider the words of C.S. Lewis… “Either they take him altogether too seriously or they do not take him seriously enough.”  Where are you on this journey of life?

We might consider walking in love, not in our natural instances and that is costly. We are new creatures in Christ, and therefore our battles in life are never with our old nature… We can think things to death.  THIS is the most important thing when it all comes down to the line…

And I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. Rev 21:2

The Cauliflower Between Our Ears.

Everyone is born with the 3lbs of cauliflower they will have for a lifetime. There no exchanging. Unlike Dr. Frankenstein, there is n20140625-100727-36447630.jpgot a doctor or individuals this side of eternity that has the ability to give us a new mind via a brain exchange, you can’t change your mind.

The human mind is a power thing that cannot be replaced and is valuable to our existence.
Can people really change? Is our personality preprogrammed or is it mailable. There are many ways one could look at this and come to a conclusion. The science of neuroplasticity says our brains have the ability to change and grow through our entire life. In a sense, our experiences retire us… So our brain is in a state of flux suggesting nothing is permanent.
What do we decide to do with the mind we have been given? Some people have special abilities such as creativity and visualizing things before they are developed, solving riddles and puzzles or simply walking through an entire process before ever taking a physical step.Renewing-your-Mind-101
It’s not so easy to change a mind. It’s not so easy without help, supernatural help that is… Events in our lives can shape us and direct or redirect our paths and with the help of the redemptive power of Jesus the dreams the limit.
I know you were pondering what the Bible must have to say about this subject so I’ll make things easier on you.

Romans 12:1-2 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Spiritual warfare often occurs in our minds such as temptation, deception, and accusations.
The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers. 1 Peter 4:7

greatness-590x215What effect does a great mind have?

The difference I see in a great mind and a small mind as simply as this:  possibilities have come forth into objective action for the great mind, dream-the-impossible-seek-the-unknown-achieve-greatnessthe same possibilities continue to be subjective inaction in the small mind.
Consider the potential great minds in our world. It very well may be that all they are lacking to become great is a parent willing to love all of the child or person, not only the visible or tangible person, but the beautiful undreamed-of wonders that are undoubtably waiting in that person/child-mind for expression. Do you see a use for this? Do you see a use for an individual that possess the ability to change the world? If we can take a moment to consider this as truth, and if we became the missing puzzle piece to create a wholeness, what change could we see? What advancement in the Kingdom would we inherently facilitate by the grace of God for His glory?  The answer is limitless…

Live simply, travel lightly, love strongly and breathe…

ImageI’m full of contradictions, absurdities, insecurities and flaws. This doesn’t mean I show them all the time or to everyone. I like to think of myself as a cultural chameleon of sorts but that is subjective. My family has said I am the pomegranate that fell from an apple tree. I can see and agree with that however I find I have developed or adopted some of my grandmother AND mothers traits the older I grow.  I love to travel, meet new people, and experience the beauty painted across our world. I believe in compassion and giving back because someone once gave to me, invested in me and believed in me… so I do this for others as often as I can!  I have left pieces of my heart in each of the wonderful places I have visited. I enjoy hot tea and cream, caramel coffee black, camels, dancing, red umbrellas, polka dots, Frank Sinatra, black and grey clothing, painting, creative writing…. I could go on. I have several nicknames. It all just depends on what group of people you ask in my life. Those who know me I am sure can identify them but for the rest of you I will leave you in wonder!
Something others say I should positive talk myself into believing… You are beautiful and unique in your own amazing way! Don’t ever let anyone sabotage or doubt that… not even yourself. I don’t know that I yet believe positive self talk is effective for me but I enjoy others finding me as good company and if you don’t thats okay too, I don’t take it personally. Not everyone can appreciate art.iStock_000020530326Small  I often review myself as unique indeed and maybe a little eccentric or eclectic. Weird is a perception though it is all relevant to the perceiver.  What matters when the day comes to an end is how was your life spent, wasted, or used up? Did I make the most of the short time I was given?
I write about my journey, with all its heartbreak, passion & joy. I hope something I have to say will be useful or meaningful for someone along the way.  If not it was a fun exercise!  I choose to collect memories as I go instead of filling a house with things that will turn to dust and one day blow away.
With all of this said I must tell you I believe it is important to celebrate one another. I have been bullied a lot in my short lifetime. Growing up there was always at the very least one bully lurking around that enjoyed entertaining his or her self at my expense. I learned a great deal from those experiences. For years I was guarded and careful of others. There was also a mentality that develop as if this was life, normality…to be bullied. I became accepting and felt in a sense deserving for being less than others. Im not less than anyone. It took me a long time to come to that realization. I am not less than anyone. To you I say you are not less than anyone no matter your perceived deficits. You are enough.
BeFunky_Oh-So-Grateful.jpgI love how the Lord leads us. He saw me when I was broken. I allowed others to beat me down because I thought I deserved it. I thought it was the hierarchy of society and acceptable. It is not. When I thought i was completely invisible He saw me. Then He began speaking to me and I recognized His voice. He is SO creative in speaking to us! I would see Him everywhere and hear His voice constantly. I began to realize how HE felt about me and that in reality THAT is the voice that matters, HIS is the mind that matters. HE conceived me in His thoughts before I ever existed. I may be strange but He finds me beautiful. He uses such a wide variety of people and methods to let us know what His will is, and what direction to take. He has been directing my path long before I knew Him. I have made mistakes and that was not HIS doing or leading but He has had a path lit for me to follow since my conception. How humbling and overwhelming is that sobering reality…

I love Psalm 19! (okay theologians don’t choke on your own gasp) How brilliant and magical… “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament shows His handiwork…” To me, God is an artist.
He can speak through movies, flowers, sunsets, grandmothers, books, children, and so many things! He is incredibly multi-faceted, and I love seeing the creativity of God on display. We were made in His image so of course that would explain my inclination and others desire to create. One thing I have learned and I will leave you with is keep dreaming those dreams because I believe God placed those seeds in your heart and mind. I am a dreamer and sometimes things are not what that are perceived to be and for that I am grateful. I have found myself in places I never want to go but once arriving there I would find a precious gift from God Himself. Sometimes that was provision, sometimes it was sweet sweet people who became dear friends. For all God’s gifts to me I am grateful.
I said that was my last thought but… well heres one more. Invest in others. It creates change and we all need change. Believe in others enough to give of yourself to help them succeed and God will see that you succeed.
To those of you whom believed in me, invested in me, and have cheered me on…      a million times over…

You get what you get…

Now concerning gifts, sometimes it appears people develop new gift they never had before. There are a few reasons they may appear to be new: maturity, awakening, cultivation, and divine download. There may be more that you can think up but this is all that immediately comes to mind.  Sometimes we have gifts within us that do not appear until we learn how to tap into them or access the things laying latent within us. There are gifts that continue to lay dormant, for lack of a better word, until a teacher or mentor comes along side us who knows how to awaken or unlock what has always been there. Faithfulness will aid in developing and cultivating what is within and divinely there are times in life there is a visitation from the Father and He may impart in us a gift we did not have prior.lightstock_72930_xsmall_ronna__cohen
I believe God looks for faithfulness and goodness. When I say goodness I mean character: morals and integrity. How can I say this…. “Well done GOOD and FAITHFUL servant.”
Be aware of envy! Philippians 1:15a some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife so we must always strive to be of the heart we find again in Philippians 1:15b-17a but some also in good will; the latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel; the former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition rather than from pure motives… it’s possible for us as followers to be successful before man and still be barren before God. How heartbreaking to strive a lifetime to come before God and all you have to show is burned up and nothing left.

But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value.
~1 Corinthians 3:13

But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap.
~Malachi 3:2

So we must ask ourselves a few things:

  • How should I be spending my life? (Time, talent, emotions, gifts, etc.)
  • What should I be doing to serve God?
  • Where should I concentrate my efforts?

I can’t answer these questions for you but I can start you in the right direction… the answer is simple.

“19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”  ~Matthew 28:19-20

What is the greatest command we have been given according to Jesus:Jesus replied: “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Found in Matthew 22 This should give you a starting place. This provides the basic foundation on which we are to build our lives and launch our gifts/talents/service. We are each given gifts and talents and measures of faith when we were conceived in the mind of God, even prior to physical conception! He knew me, He knew you as a concept before our conception here on earth. How overwhelming is our Creator!

The essence of the Christian life is in obeying and worshiping God and serving/helping others. The essence of the kingdom is manifesting solutions to people’s problems. SO how can we use who we are and what we are made of to serve and make change in the world!

C.S. Lewis said it well:

“The stamp of the Saint is that he can waive his own rights and obey the Lord Jesus.”

Oh God, get my eyes off of me and let me see the earth as my responsibility. As an intercessor and an ambassador, give me compassion and clarity. I have come to realize what defines me and you is not our decision in one moment. It is the decisions we will make every day. Jesus is not supposed to just be insurance, He’s supposed to be an obsession.
