Fear May Wear the Mask of Responsibility


There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and anyone who fears has not been perfected in love. ~1 JOHN 4.18

Do you recognize fear in your life? Do you wake up everyday and overcome what you fear? Is overcoming fear practical?

It’s possible to live without fear and fully fulfill your purpose. It’s simple but it’s hard, to overcome fear with faith and fight the good fight to win… cliche? It is truth. What is not possible is a mere swipe at it with a moment of prayer and a little effort. It takes aggressive elbow grease. Someone once told me you must do the very thing you fear. If God has called you to the nations but you are afraid of flying then the example to counter this is start by buying a plane ticket! What is your dream, your purpose your calling? How will you take action? If your dream is to open a business and you fear the lack of money… get started! There are ways to begin without money and God will supply!

Your soul (mind, will, emotions) needs to be reminded of a few things:
1. The Lord is your shepherd.
2. You have no lack.
3. He makes you lie down and rest.
4. He restores your soul.

Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.

2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
3 He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;

My cup runs over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord

Do you lack hope? Do you lack peace? Do you lack depth in relationships? Do you lack momentum in reaching your destiny? Where are you now and where do you want to be?

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, withthanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. Andthe God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:6-9

We as a people have various standards of what we believe we are to be held responsible for without consistency spanning our society… The definition of responsibility is:  the state or fact of having a duty to deal with something or of having control over someone.  Do you see how fear could hide in this area of our lives? It is possible that we use the excuse of responsibility to hide from the things in life, or future that scare us or even cause us to doubt the ability God has given us to succeed in an area.  The fear of failure is a big motivator when people back away from a task…  Is there something in your life that you should be doing or need to do that you are not because you are afraid? What are your excuses?  Excuses cloaked in the guise of responsibility to what or whom?!

We do have many responsibilities in life, church, family, work, bills, education, and various other things we commit ourselves to doing; do we commit to somethings to avoid others? Do we use the commitment to family or church as a way to avoid what God is calling us to do or our purpose that feels bigger than self or the abilities we have?! I think it happens…
